Biohotels.de is Germany's largest portal specifically for sustainable organic hotels and nature hotels in Europe.
Story
The project was founded in 2005 by Clemens Scharmann from the wattweb media agency. In 2015, the portal was taken over by Florian Böttger & Georg Pieper GbR (now Galaxia GmbH), the domain Biohotels.com was purchased and a complete relaunch followed with the industry portal software discoverize. This relaunch optimized the design, content, technology and usability of the project. This significantly increased the performance, Google visibility and ultimately the traffic of the portal.
At the end of 2022, the portal was taken over by Sven-Erik Hitzer. Hitzer has been an organic hotelier (BIONIER) himself for 25 years and is therefore no stranger to the industry. Since 2019, Sven-Erik Hitzer has been on the board of the BIO HOTELS® association based in Nassereith-AT (biohotels.info), which describes itself as "the real" BIO HOTELS with 100% organic content.
Complemented by the .eu domain and consistently sharpened in key criteria, the portal has developed into THE organic portal for sustainable accommodations and restaurants across Europe in just 3 months. In the medium term, intensive cooperation with the BIO HOTELS® association and joint networking are planned.

Since we are very concerned about environmental and climate protection, we present ecological, climate-neutral hotels as far as possible on Biohotels.de and would also like to encourage other hoteliers to operate their hotels in an environmentally conscious and sustainable manner with the smallest possible carbon footprint and to constantly reduce this. Be it through organic, regional cuisine , an extensive vegan menu, building biology aspects, energy-saving measures such as heat recovery or 100% green electricity - each of us can make the world a little better.

We buy our own products from the local organic market and use 100% green electricity and sustainable wind gas from Greenpeace Energy. We also only use Greenpeace Energy for energy in the office and only use recycled paper for printed materials.

Many of our members offer exclusively or almost 100% organic food, which comes primarily from regional organic farmers. A vegetarian and vegan offering for vegetarian and vegan guests should be a matter of course. Requirements for membership at Biohotels.de
Hotels , guest houses and farms that wish to become members of Biohotels.de must meet the following admission criteria:
- At least 50% of all dishes offered consist of organic products (target: 100% organic cuisine ) ✅ (If the organic content is <50%, the accommodation must register as a nature hotel.)
- There is at least one vegetarian menu on the menu (target: at least one vegan menu) ✅
- Ban on products from factory farming, genetically modified foods and production with glyphosate ✅
- Use of renewable energies ( green electricity , green heating or CO2 compensation ) ✅
- Mainly regional products are used ✅
- Conscious waste prevention and waste separation ✅
- Water saving measures ✅
Our goals and principles

- We reject food that comes from factory farming , is produced using genetic engineering or is produced using agricultural poisons such as glyphosate . Hotels that purchase such products therefore have no place on Biohotels.de.

What requirements must a hotel fulfill to become a member of Biohotels.de?
The most important requirement for membership in our directory of organic hotels is that each establishment has a certified organic share of at least 50% (hotels with <50% must register as a nature hotel) with an intended goal of 100% organic-certified cuisine. Other requirements are at least one vegetarian (or even better, vegan) menu , a ban on products from factory farming and genetically modified foods , the use of renewable energies , the use of predominantly regional and seasonal products , conscious waste avoidance and water-saving measures .

How does the Biohotel portal’s points system work?
The main criterion for ranking and displaying the organic hotel entries in the search results are the points . The more complete an organic hotel entry is, the more points are awarded. Organic hotels can achieve a maximum value of 400 points for completeness , guest reviews and booking a premium entry .

What are our goals and principles?
Our goal is a long-term cooperation with as many environmentally conscious hotels as possible in order to continuously reduce the CO² footprint of hotels .
How much does membership for an organic hotel cost?
Our organic hotel portal is 100% free for guests and organic hotels. We present all organic hotels in great detail without any listing fees or booking commissions. To cover our costs, we offer premium entries for hotels that are better listed in our points ranking, can link to their own website , embed presentation videos , etc. and are therefore viewed and requested much more often than free entries. These entries cost from €290 per year . The price depends on the number of beds in the organic hotels.

A list of the hotels located there is updated immediately next to the map. The sorting can be adjusted to suit your own needs, for example by reviews from other guests . Clarification: We are not the association "BIO HOTELS" or "The BIO HOTELS"
Since we are regularly confused with the BIO HOTELS association or the BIO HOTELS (from 6465 Nassereith, Austria): Biohotels.de is not the Austrian association that operates its website at www.biohotels.info. In particular, you cannot redeem a BIO HOTELS voucher with us that was issued exclusively for Biohotels members of the association. Please also request the association's catalogs directly from biohotels.info .
Biohotel Award / Biohotel of the Year
The most popular providers of organic holidays (organic hotels, nature hotels, organic vegan hotels, organic pensions and organic wineries) are awarded the Organic Hotel Award once a year. All organic hotels that have received an award can advertise with the " awarded by Biohotels.de " button. All other registered hotels should use the " Member of Biohotels.de " button or our Organic Hotels logo in 448 px (jpg file), 1000 px (jpg file) or in the original size of 2500 px (transparent png file).
